Recording!

Rick and I have begun! We've laid down the drum parts to three of the four songs that are going to end up on our upcoming EP. Rick invested in some Cascade Fat Head II Mics with the Lundahl transformer to capture his overheads this time around and we're thoroughly impressed. It's giving the sounds we're capturing from his kit a much rounder sound than i think a small diaphragm condenser would. Rather than the hiss you tend to hear coming through the tracks from the symbols on the previous recording, it sounds more natural, airy, more of an "Ahhh" than a "Hiss".

He also recently purchased some Audix microphones for use on his toms and kick drums. The D6 is on his kick, and the D4, and D2 are on his floor and rack toms respectively. I'll admit that I fell in love with Audix when a buddy of mine recommended them a few years back for a previous project Rick and I were working on. (We made a lot of music. If you're curious about how it turned out and would like to listen, you can do so at your own peril.)

Here's a video of Rick shaking the dust off.

The next post will likely be about tracking bass with Devin. Stay tuned!
